I think we pretty much all felt the wrath of 2016, so I won’t be long winded in explaining to you just how trifling it actually was. A whole joke.
One of my biggest mistakes of 2016 was floating into the year with no direction. I had all of these aspirations with no set plans, no course of action, and no means of motivation to bring any of them into fruition. Truly a tragedy. I mean, of course I didn’t turn into a complete bum, but I wasn’t living my life ON PURPOSE. I was stricken with a bitter case of complacency, and believe me when I tell you this: That is no way to live.
2017 is finally here - thank the Lord - and my spirit is tingling with a sense of newness. Through what seemed like a never ending uphill climb, I am not defeated. For that, I stand humbled, ready to take 2017 by storm. Of course, there is no telling what this new year may bring (prayerfully blessings in abundance), but I have made it my mission to make it the best one yet. Rather than making a lengthy list of resolutions, I decided to make a few simple guidelines to keep in mind along the way:
Remain Positive.
If it ain’t one thing, it’s another.
It’s so easy for me to pick apart my flaws and see the wrong in everything that happens. Experience is the best teacher, and she’s shown me 10 times over that dwelling on the mishaps of life does nothing to benefit your present situation. Seeing the good, especially in tough situations, presents a new challenge- one that I am ready to take on.
Make healthy choices.
Not only for my physical appearance, but for my mental well-being too. Staying up all night cramming for tests? Cancelled. Constantly giving to those who don’t pour back into me? Cancelled. Being selfless for the sake of others? Cancelled. Basically, if it’s not for my overall benefit, it’s a no from me.
Invest in YOURSELF.
I’ll be turning 20 this year, and the thought of that is just beyond me. Adulthood- as defined by legal terms- is 18 years of age, but according to my Mama, I “ain’t grown yet”. Nonetheless, it is right around the corner, and now is the time to lay the framework for my
future. With every decision, I’ll have the bigger picture in mind.
Don’t forget to execute.
It’s one thing for me to say what I will do, but if I’m not making the conscious effort to keep my word to myself then I serve no purpose here. So... 2017, Wassup?
